Response to Kiesling
on Peter Paret,
The Cognitive Challenge of War: Prussia 1806. [MWSR
2010.01.07.] |
At the conclusion of her
review, Eugenia Kiesling quotes a long sentence on the political
opposition of Prussian conservatives to the Landwehr after 1815
(98-99), to illustrate her belief that I occasionally compress too
many ideas into a single statement, which leads to "near
incomprehensibility." May I point out that she quotes me inaccurately.
I did not write " ... a development motivated ... by conservative
dislike of the Landwehr's privileges and their social
imperialism"--which is nonsense. I did write " ... a development
motivated ... by conservative dislike of the Landwehr's privileges and
their social implications"--which seems pretty clear.
